Supermodel Tyra's personal stylist to be pageant judge
CELEBRITY stylist Oscar James has been recruited to sit on the panel of this summer's Miss Teen Bermuda Islands pageant.Signing up Mr. James (pictured below), who is the personal stylist of supermodel Tyra Banks and has also worked on the hair of Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and pop star Vanessa Williams, is something of a coup for pageant organiser Terry Smith.
The pageant will take place at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel on August 13. Orientation for the girls taking part will take place at the Bermuda Industrial Union next Monday, between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m."We are delighted to have Oscar James as an international judge this year," Mr Smith said. "He is well known as the personal stylist of Tyra Banks, who hosts America's Next Top Model television show.
"The pageant is open to girls aged between 13 and 17, who are either Bermudian, or who have been resident here for at least six months."They have to be doing reasonably well at school and they need good inter-personal skills."In the run-up to the event, the girls will get to meet Premier Alex Scott, Governor Sir John Vereker and Lady Vereker, Opposition Leader Wayne Furbert and Hamilton Mayor Jay Bluck.Entrants will face a series of tests including recitals and answering judges' questions on the spot. Five finalists will be presented to the audience.
"There has been increasing competition between the schools in recent years and the last two years, a Mount St. Agnes student has won overall," Mr. Smith said."So we're looking for good representation from MSA again, as well as schools like Berkeley Institute and Bermuda High School."Anyone wishing to know more about Miss Teen Bermuda Islands can contact Mr. Smith on 337-5552.
